Torchwood – The Lost Files – The House of the Dead
Part of the trilogy of BBC radio plays known as ‘The Lost Files’, The House of the Dead is often cited by fans as a favorite, and marks the final time that Ianto Jones appears in any medium. And speaking of mediums, there are more than a few spooky goings on in this James Goss tale, as the most haunted pub in Wales prepares to close its door for the last time, suitably enough with a séance.
Featuring the voice talents of the three major actors in the series at the time – John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd and Eve Myles – The House of the Dead is a suspenseful audio piece. It’s also a testament to the BBC’s ability to continuously put out well produced, gripping radio drama in what has always been considered one of the most difficult of genres – sci-fi.
For anyone wanting just a little bit more Ianto then this audio book is a blessing, and there are some truly touching moments between the characters, acted out in full phonic glory by the original cast members.
What is the truth behind the pub’s supernatural presence, and will Jack and Ianto manage to stop the séance before it’s too late? Throughout the story Goss keeps listeners guessing, and there’s a dramatic twist in the tale that few will see coming.
