Torchwood – The Lost Files – The Complete Series
For those who just can’t get enough of sci-fi drama Torchwood, The Lost Files is a real treat. In this trio of full BBC radio dramatizations, the team tackle some characteristically eerie mysteries that will test their survival skills as much as their grey matter.
As you’d expect with the BBC’s audio output, ‘The Devil and Miss Carew’, ‘Submission’ and ‘The House of the Dead’ are all slickly produced dramatizations with great sound design, scoring and spot-on performances. Heading up the cast is the irrepressibly charismatic John Barrowman reprising his TV role as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as policewoman turned Torchwood operative Gwen, and Gareth David-Lloyd as the ever dependable Ianto. Kai Owen also appears as Gwen’s long-suffering boyfriend Rhys.
To put The Lost Files into chronological perspective, the three radio-exclusive stories included here were broadcast by the BBC just before Torchwood: Miracle Day first hit UK screens, but are for the most part set prior to the Children of Earth third series. Ghosts, fiendish deep sea aliens and suspiciously youthful pensioners are all par for the course here, with the cast putting in some cracking performances to really ratchet up the tension. From séances in haunted Welsh pubs to the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench, Torchwood: The Lost Files takes the listener on a roller coaster ride of emotions and adventure.
