Torchwood – Red Skies
After getting a little hacked off with the human race, Captain Jack Harkness decides that it might be time for a break. In true Captain Jack style, he heads off to Cotter Paluni’s World, aka the ‘planet of the fit.’ However, life on Paluni’s world is not what it seems. The pale population worship Harkness and those who speak out against him are punished. Captain Jack finds himself the unwilling focus of another mystery - just how much do the people of this planet know about him and what he does?
While this maybe an unusual story for Torchwood, it does give us a wonderfully deep insight into the leading character. The dialogue is peppered with Captain Jack’s usual wry ripostes but we also get to see what goes on behind the mask, and Harkness is revealed to be a much darker character than we might think, riddled with guilt at some of his previous actions. There are also mentions of Torchwood characters that we haven’t seen for a while, especially one that is to have a huge influence on the story.
Red Skies is voiced by John Telfer, whose vocal abilities perfectly capture Captain Jack’s cadences and quirks with every line.
