Torchwood - Golden Age
Taking place during what many would describe as Torchwood’s own golden age, this radio dramatization will thrill fans of the first three TV series, and features the original cast reprising their roles as Jack, Gwen and Ianto. It will particularly intrigue anyone wishing to know more about the enigmatic Torchwood India.
Written by Torchwood/ Doctor Who aficionado James Goss, Golden Age takes place between the second and third series of the TV show, and is set not in Cardiff but, if you haven’t guessed it, India. It’s a setting that adds a great deal of atmosphere to this audio book, and is wonderfully put together by the BBC team with director Kate McAll at the reins.
The plot is snappy, and laden with wry humor. The Torchwood team must figure out the source of a mysterious energy field, which becomes even more inexplicable when it results in the disappearance of a crowd of people right before their eyes. Captain Jack Harkness is even more surprised when it emerges that the field is centered on his old workplace – Torchwood India – not least because he personally saw it to its closure early in the 20th Century. As the team struggle to get to the bottom of the mystery, some old (yet surprisingly young) friends emerge.
