Torchwood: Everyone Says Hello
Everyone Says Hello is an exciting and original story read by Burn Gorman (who plays Owen in the TV series), that cleverly uses the convention of audio drama to its spine-tingling best. Across Cardiff, the general population are behaving very oddly, going to great lengths to introduce themselves with a friendly “hello” and revealing more than is absolutely necessary about their lives. What at first seems to be an epidemic of sociability is soon revealed to be part of an alien reconnaissance mission…
This audio drama has atmosphere in spades, using simple repetition of a single word to raise the creepiness factor tenfold. Burn Gorman covers all the characters with vocal aplomb, creating a world for the listener that begins ordinarily enough, but quickly descends into something much more sinister. At 46 minutes per episode and a total running-time of two and a half hours, there is also time to drop in more character exploration than the TV series gives, allowing Gorman to really flesh out the main protagonists.
Part mystery and part race against time, this particular adventure is different enough to excite fans of the TV show, yet sturdy enough to act as an introduction to Torchwood for those who may have not seen it.
