As the Pargiters, a middle-class London family, move from the oppressive confines of the Victorian home of the 1880s to the 1930s, they are weighed down by the pressures of war, capitalism and Empire, and the rise of Fascism...

‘The Years', written in 1937, was the most popular of Virginia Woolf’s novels during her lifetime.

Virginia Woolf was born in London in 1882. From 1915, when she published her first novel, ‘The Voyage Out', she maintained an astonishing output of fiction, literary criticism, essays and biography. In 1912 she married Leonard Woolf and five years later they founded the Hogarth Press. Virginia Woolf died in 1941.
