The Brave Tin Soldier
25 tin soldiers are made from an old spoon. However, the last one is incomplete, missing a leg. The soldiers are a birthday present for a little boy, who puts them on a table with his other toys, including a pretty dancer made from paper. The one-legged soldier falls in love with her, but thinks that she will have nothing to do with him, because she is grand and lives in a castle. However, one night, a goblin appears and warns the soldier not to wish for things that he cannot have or it may well prove to be his undoing…
Ex-Doctor Who star and renowned actor David Tennant brings the story to life in his own quick-fire style. His narration is both engaging and dynamic, drawing young listeners into this fantastical tale. Tennant’s abilities as an actor are evident in his superb characterizations, including the soldier, the goblin and a rather nasty rat. While Tennant may be known for his mercurial delivery, he is particularly attentive to the more poignant aspects of the text.
Andersen’s fairy tale is enchanting and touching - a must for all young fans of magical stories and adults looking to recapture a more innocent time.
