Review By Joel - The story only makes sense if you've seen Season 3, Episode 13, "The Sound of Drums." But, as a transition to fill the space between 13 and 14, "Last of the Time Lords," it's a fairly decent filling. (Posted on August 29, 2012)

Doctor Who – The Story of Martha

What really happened to Martha Jones when she was traveling the world, under the Master’s reign of terror? Set between The Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords, this epic audio adventure charts how one of the Tenth Doctor’s most enduring companions set about spreading the story of the trapped Time Lord.

Fans of the Tenth Time Lord’s adventures are in for a treat. In addition to the main thread, in which Martha’s mission is simply to awaken the world to the presence of the Doctor, we also find out about some of the other adventures they shared - ones that were never screened.

Freema Agyeman gives Martha just the right amount of grit and determination to convey the idea that she has been around the globe on a seemingly-thankless mission. Her portrayal of Tennant’s Doctor is disarmingly precise, filled with the warmth and affection that Martha obviously holds for him. The Rising Night is a dark drama set against the bleak backdrop of a broken Earth, where telling tales is all that is left.

This collection of stories is woven into a grander tapestry, and told by a companion clinging onto her last thread of hope that the Doctor will, somehow, overthrow his deadliest arch-enemy.
