Torchwood – The Lost Files – Submission
Part of the BBC’s Torchwood tales from The Lost Files, Submission is a full cast dramatization and features John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David Lloyd reprising their roles from what many fans consider to be the ‘classic’ era of the TV series.
This exciting and atmospheric adventure stays true to the Doctor Who-esque ‘monster of the week’ style, which some feel was sorely missed in later Torchwood incarnations. Submission sees the Torchwood team head into the very deepest part of the ocean. Starting on the Severn Bridge and ending in the Mariana Trench, Jack and the team have to discover whether a cry for help is genuine – or a trap designed to lure them to their deaths. Beneath the waves they plunge into a claustrophobic world where they do battle with a malevolent alien who’s more than a little interested in the grayish squiggly thing between their ears. All this is underpinned by some intriguing science to go with the riveting fiction, and the chance to learn a little more about Ianto’s back story, courtesy of former Torchwood London colleague Carlie.
What makes Submission really come alive for the listener is the brilliant underwater soundscape, which lets fans simply close their eyes and fully submerge themselves into the concept of Torchwood in a submarine.
