Customer Reviews

Anyone with even a passing interest in crime fiction will be aware of the impact that PD James has made on the genre. Her most famous character, Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, has set the template for others to follow, investigating the responsibility that comes with being a representative of the Law.

This audiobook for CD takes the form of a collection of interviews throughout her career as an author. James talks about her life and her career as an author, giving us insight into how she approaches creating plots and characters and how her background has influenced the themes of her books. It was undoubtedly the time spent as a civil servant in the Crime Department that had the most pronounced effect on her writing, imbuing her stories with an authenticity that was previously lacking in the genre. However, it was also her time in the health service and caring for her husband’s metal illness that instilled in her the powers of observation and insight that typify her writing.

Whether you have read some, all or none of James’ books, this audiobook for MP3 is the ideal way to get to know the writer behind the words. A must for fans, newbies and even aspiring authors.
