Doctor Who – The Forever Trap
The Tenth Doctor is back in all his wise-cracking and world-weary glory, accompanied by one of his most popular companions, Donna Noble. From the moment the Doctor and Donna find themselves the unwilling residents in the mysterious Edifice, this thriller-style story ramps up the tension and the mystery as they struggle to find out just what is going on. Set almost entirely in the claustrophobic corridors of an intergalactic apartment block, the Doctor encounters new adversaries and some very familiar faces from his pasts.
Catherine Tate’s vocal abilities make this audio drama a gripping and multi-layered experience. Not only does she play Donna, but her skills as an actress mean that she is able to give a pitch-perfect rendition of David Tennant’s Time Lord too. As the adventure continues, the two time travellers must find out who governs the Edifice before the mysterious force that is corroding it finally destroys everything and everyone housed there.
The Forever Trap is an example of Doctor Who at its best, sublimely weaving suspense and mystery with this Doctor’s apparent devil-may-care attitude. However, Tate is also able to portray the Doctor’s burden of loneliness and responsibility; traits that made him one of the most popular incarnations of this well-loved character.
