Two degrees west is the line of longitude that runs through the heart of England from the North Sea to the English Channel and is the only line of longitude shown on the maps of the Ordnance Survey. Slicing through extremes of English landscapes, from wind–tossed moors to the grimy streets of the Black Country, Crane spent two months walking; and the people and places selected at random by the line were often bizarre, always unexpected, and depicted an England adapting to change.
