How Smart Students Pay for School has separate sections for students, parents, returning students and graduates with debt. However, it's highly encouraged for parents to discuss what they've learned after their kids listen to their section.
On this page, you'll find discussion questions. Plus, links for resources for parents, returning students and graduates with debt. You'll find links for checklists for the top 5 things you should do after listening to the audio.
For additional questions, contact me on twitter @reynagobel or seek help from your high school counseling, college budgeting or financial aid office.
Discussion Questions for Parents to Ask Their Teens
1. How has your idea changed about what to look for in college visits? What departments would you like to visit while on campus? What appointments will you make?
2. What can you do this year to solidify your career goals and future major selection? Who will you seek for help? Will you call employers directly for shadow days or internships?
3. When can you make an appointment with your high school counselor about scholarships? Can I / we join you at one of your appointments?
4. Who do you prefer to make an appointment with to discuss your college budget: your high school counselor, a peer counselor in a college budgeting office or a credit union financial counselor? When will you make the phone or in-person appointment?
5. How can I / we help with the school selection and paying for college process?
