If you’re still pining for more Torchwood adventures following the conclusion of the fourth series then never fear - for the BBC has released a series of made-for-audio stories, of which Army of One is the first.
Army of One follows on from the events of Torchwood: Miracle Day, and was written exclusively for AudioGo by Ian Edgington, a comic book veteran who has previously penned a number of stories for Torchwood magazine. As with many of the other audio books released to tie in with the TV series, this one is read by a member of the cast – Kai Owen, who fans will recognise as Gwen’s husband Rhys.
The story is set in the US and follows Gwen and Rhys as they are pursued not just by the US authorities but by a shape-shifting alien life form. Meanwhile in the US capital a series of grisly murders is taking place with just one oddly grotesque characteristic to connect them.
For fans of the TV series, Army of One is a unique chance to catch up with Gwen and Rhys in a heart-racingly tense and intriguing fast-paced tale. Owen’s reading has a real sense of urgency about it and draws the listener deeper and deeper into the plot, with a genuinely eerie background score creating extra atmosphere.
