This BBC recording of the Taming Of The Shrew tells the hilarious tale of Petruchio and Katherina and explores what happens when two very opinionated people are placed in the same room and let loose on one another. There are some scenes that are so sharp in dialogue that you are in great danger of cutting yourself on it! The play almost explodes with one-liners that always hit their mark.
Gerard McSorley plays Petruchio in this energetic, full-cast Radio 3 production. McSorley has had a distinguished career in theatre both in his native Ireland and in England and has appeared in many Hollywood films, notably Braveheart, In The Name Of The Father and has starred in the excellent Father Ted as Father Todd Unctious. Ruth Mitchell takes up the mantle of Katherina - ‘the Shrew’ - in this BBC audiobook. Ruth has appeared in several high profile TV productions including Dalziel And Pascoe and as District Nurse Jan Hollis in the series Heartbeat.
This excellent production is available as an MP3 download and is part of an innovative reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s plays by the BBC. There is a strong supporting ensemble cast who very masterfully act as onlookers (or are they casualties?) to the wrangling of the main characters. This is a treat to the ears in a rich audio landscape.
