This CD audiobook offers a simple, straightforward story, which is easy for younger listeners to follow. Having said that, the script sparkles with wit and interplay between the characters and the moments of tension are wonderfully realised, supported by a variety of sound effects from the BBC Sound Department.

Elizabeth Sladen is on top form as the narrator and keeps the pace cracking along. Her main skill, however, is to deliver the script with such warmth that, even in the scarier moments, the listeners are sure that Sarah Jane will save the day. A fantastically entertaining ride.
