Customer Reviews

Arthur Conan Doyle grew up in relatively modest surroundings, and if it wasn't for the investment in his education by his wealthy uncles we might never have met the colourful characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. It was in a Jesuit Catholic School in England where Conan Doyle transformed into an educated man well on his way to becoming a doctor. All of these experiences can be seen in his work, from the working class backdrops of London to the scientific approach often adopted by Holmes. Now this extensive collection of Sherlock Holmes CD audiobooks (also available as MP3 downloads) brings his greatest creation vividly to life.

As the final novel to feature Sherlock Holmes, ‘The Valley of Fear’ is a story of intrigue and mystery. Holmes receives information that someone named John Douglas is in trouble. But the warning comes too late, and he is called upon by the police to assist with the murder enquiry of the hapless Mr Douglas. His mastermind abilities and psychological expertise allow Holmes to uncover deceptions and unravel manipulated clues. A secret society is brought to light and surprising twists are revealed. The ominous Professor James Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes's arch-nemesis, appears once again in this Arthur Conan Doyle novel. His sinister presence immediately instills concern and intrigue in the reader; Moriarty is infamous for his arrogant demeanor and charming façade – and is every inch Holmes equal. Who will triumph in their final encounter? Find out, as seasoned actor Sir Derek Jacobi reads this thrilling BBC audiobook and brings Conan Doyles’ greatest character towards his epic conclusion.
