On the planet Telos, the Doctor and his friends encounter a party of archaeologists intent on uncovering the mythical tomb of the Cybermen. Only the Doctor seems aware of the folly of this venture, but suddenly it’s too late - the ice tombs are open and the Cybermen are coming back to life...Trapped underground with the Cyber Controller and his acolytes, including the vermin-like Cybermats, the Doctor and company learn that they are to be turned into a new generation of Cybermen. To make matters worse, there is treachery and double-crossing amongst the humans. Can the Cyber menace be made dormant before it spreads out to the galaxy once again and will the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria escape with their lives?Patrick Troughton is the Doctor in this digitally remastered soundtrack of a classic BBC TV story. Frazer Hines, who played Jamie in these four BBC TV episodes from 1967, provides linking narration, and in a bonus interview, he also recalls the making of ‘The Tomb of the Cybermen’.

Review By Smudger - This was a great story, I think listening to the drama unfold is better than watching it on Tv, your imagination makes the best scenes. The recovery of this story was well worth the effort, you could imagine revisiting the Tomb many year later, and another resurrection taking place, while the Cybermen incorporate new technology learnt from the Tomb Raiders. A continuation if ever I felt one.

Thank you. (Posted on 19 March 2013)

Doctor Who audiobooks for CD and MP3 are the perfect way to introduce New Whovians to the Doctor’s Classic adventures, without having to compromise on special effects and thrills. Pair up a strong script with a new fan’s imagination and the Cybermen retain their chilling appeal.

This CD audiobook comprises the original soundtrack with interviews from members of the original cast. Patrick Troughton takes the console as the Second Doctor and his whimsical, yet hint-of-steel performance translates perfectly into the realms of an audio BBC Drama.

In this story, the Doctor and his companions arrive on Telos, interrupting an archaeological expedition to unearth the last resting-place of the handle-headed monsters. Despite the Doctor’s warnings, the expedition goes ahead and soon the Cybermen are awakened from their silent sleep…

What’s most interesting here is the relationship between the Tardis crew-members. The Doctor and Jamie have obviously forged a real friendship and the Highlander is obviously more at ease with the surprises thrown up by time-travel. Polly, however, is new to all this chaos and Jamie takes her under his wing. A cracking listen for fans of all ages and one of the most-accessible adventures for the new generation of Who fans.
