Eve Myles reads this gripping story of an unbreakable secret, a terrible intruder and an imminent apocalypse. The End of the World began on a Thursday night in October, just after eight in the evening... The Amok is driving people out of their minds, turning them into zombies and causing riots in the streets. A solitary diner leaves a Cardiff restaurant, his mission to protect the Principal leading him to a secret base beneath a water tower. Everyone has a headache; there's something in Davey Morgan's shed; and the Church of St Mary-in-the-Dust, demolished in 1840, has reappeared - though it's not due till 2011. Torchwood seem to be out of their depth. What will all this mean for the romance between Torchwood's newest members? Captain Jack Harkness has something more to worry about: an alarm, an early warning, given to mankind and held - inert - by Torchwood for 108 years. And now it's flashing. Something is coming. Or something is already here. Read by Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper, this thrilling adventure features Captain Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato and Ianto Jones, as played by John Barrowman, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd in the hit series from BBC Television. Contains adult themes and language.

Customer Reviews

This CD audiobook gives us an insight as to what happens to the Torchwood organisation when its resources are low. With a constant bombardment of threats and anomalies to investigate, Captain Jack Harkness and his crew are stretched to the limits and often appear in danger of losing control of some dangerous situations.

The Amok is an alien transmitting information into human minds. Harmless enough, until you factor in the fact that our brains simply aren’t designed to handle data of this magnitude. The result is that those affected are turning into little short of zombies. However, as with most Torchwood audiobooks for MP3, the big threat isn’t usually the main one.

Throw in an alien soldier disguised as a businessman, a time rift at the local church and the troubles of a door-to-door salesman and you might be getting close to the heart of the matter – especially if you were to ask Taff Morgan just what he’s hiding in his shed…

Eve Myles, best known as the series’ Gwen Cooper, lends her vocal skills to this story, inhabiting all the characters with deceptive ease. While the storyline might appear complicated, Myles guides us through each layer, until the terrifying truth is laid bare. A tense audiobook thriller for all fans of science fiction.
