In his Alpine base, Blofeld is developing biological weapons that will devastate Britain. Unaware of the danger, James Bond is about to get married to Teresa di Vicenzo, the daughter of a Corsican Mafioso. But then he is sent to Switzerland. Bond's marriage and Blofeld's schemes disintegrate in a blizzard of gunfire and high explosive from which neither man emerges the victor. Includes an exclusive bonus interview with David Tennant.

Review By Ben - Firstly, being a James Bond fan, not only of the films but the classic novels of Ian Fleming, this is a superbly crafted thriller. No other book in the James Bond cannon is so emotionally charged, particularly where our hero utters the line "Will you marry me"? its a sublime scene between him and the doomed Countess Tracy, and one of those moments that the literal James Bond relishes and cant be matched by the films. David Tennant gives a very well balanced vocal interpretation, appearing to enjoy the light hearted exchanges between Bond and Marc Ange Draco throughout, and giving us a sense of scope and scale when describing Blofeld's mountain top lair, Piz Gloria. His Bond is a true gentleman who perhaps is in what could call the origins of a mid-life crisis, and it is this disillusionment with his life that Tennant captures perfectly through his strong sense of vocal authority

Although almost 8 hours in length, the time flies by and one is tempted to literally replay to again be submerged in the world of Bond, James Bond. (Posted on 17 October 2012)

A Scottish actor, who reads in an English accent and then has to pretend to be Scottish. This audiobook may sound as convoluted as a Bond novel, but that’s just part of what makes On Her Majesty’s Secret Service a superb listen with David Tennant (Doctor Who).

There’s also one of the world’s master criminals, a remarkably beautiful girl, and plenty of wild and exciting chases on the Swiss mountains.

However, to infiltrate Blofeld’s lair, Bond has to impersonate a Scottish peer (though it’s not the first time we’ve experienced a Scottish Bond). But Tennant’s take on Blofeld is something else. This major villain’s silky voice makes him sound even more dangerous and deadly.

Tennant reads this audiobook with humour and pathos, and at a breathless pace when danger occurs.

We also discover more about 007: what motivates him and how he’s fed up with all his untidy, casual affairs.

However, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service still features ten gorgeous girls (which are even too much for Bond).

And it all begins with 007 saving a beautiful girl...

Listen out for:

  • Bond’s draft letter to M
  • a glimpse of Bond’s childhood
  • Bond’s dangerous night-time escape on skis from Blofeld's lair
  • Bond’s breathless pursuit after Blofeld
  • Bond’s family motto and the name of a future Bond film: 'The World Is Not Enough'

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is the eleventh James Bond title by Ian Fleming.
