In The Tenth Planet, wonderfully written by science fiction author Kit Pedler, we are introduced to the menacing Cybermen for the first time. The Doctor’s voice is provided by English actor and star of the BBC Doctor Who TV series William Hartnell as the first Doctor’s reign nears its end.
The TARDIS crew are taken forward in time to 1986 to the icy landscape of the South Pole, where an excited team of scientists based at the Snowcap Base have just discovered a brand new planet. But as any avid Doctor Who fan will know, danger is lurking around every corner and as the Doctor, Ben and Polly arrive at the base so does a spaceship that brings with it some dangerous passengers – the Cybermen.
As a bloody battle erupts for control of the planet, the Doctor begins to grow old and weary in front of his companions and when he collapses, his death seems inevitable. The humans are up against the Cybermen and with the Doctor aging rapidly, they will have to fight without his help. But can they revive the Doctor from the brink of certain death and can they stop the threatening extraterrestrials from taking over Earth?
