A small explosion with huge effects is caused when the Doctor enters a risky combination into the faulty control system of the TARDIS. Rendered temporarily unconscious, he and his crew - Barbara, Ian and Susan - awaken to find themselves disoriented, mildly amnesiac and trapped inside their defunct vehicle.
As tension mounts, cabin fever begins to set in. Suspicions of intentional sabotage and alien intervention are flung around until eventually the crew begin to harbour seething doubts against each other.
With the bitter sting of distrust marring their ability to work as a team, the crew struggle to gather the clues that will free them from their trap. Will they ever be able to find a solution, or are they doomed to float uselessly through a void for all eternity?
