It’s New Year’s Eve in 1930 and Charley has an appointment with a young man at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. For some time, the Doctor has been trying to get her back in time so that she can make the meeting, yet it has proved excessively difficult. Finally he succeeds. But the knock-on effects are far from what he could have expected.

As the Doctor sits waiting for Charley he is approached by the sinister Sebastian Grayle - a man who he does not recognise. Grayle, however, knows exactly who the Doctor is. And at some point in the past or future, the immortal stranger promises that he will kill him, accordingly destroying all of humanity.

As the Doctor and Charley search desperately through history for the secret of Grayle’s power, they embark upon a quest across four different periods of the Earth’s history, all-too-aware that the elusive enemy could strike in any time or place…
