Long ago an alien scientist and their companion were banished to a prehistoric earth. They landed on the Galapagos Islands and, finding a foaming, fiery planet, placed themselves in stasis deep beneath the earth’s surface for thousands of years...
Fast-forward and we find the TARDIS taking Doctor Who and his companion Dr Evelyn Smythe back in time to meet her hero Charles Darwin. But when the Silurians (and a Myrka) reawaken from their slumber and intent on claiming the earth for their own species, the idea of the survival of the fittest takes on a whole new meaning.
This is the first Big Finish audiobook for CD written by Jonathan Morris and he brings a witty, entertaining and sharp script to a story that is an audiobook exclusive. The full-cast recording features the sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, alongside Maggie Stables as Dr Smythe – a cool companion who is blissfully unafraid of putting this version of the Doctor in his place.
The period setting (enhanced by wonderful audio) and important historical figure work as a good combination with the larger-than-life Baker and Miles Richardson brings us a notable performance as a very human Charles Darwin.
A commendable historical romp!
