Anyone who knows their French will know that Loups-Garoux is the French word for ‘Werewolf’. And anyone who knows their Doctor Who lore will know that Turlough, the Doctor’s companion for this MP3 audiobook, is more than he seems. Mix it all together with some time travel, evil scheming and a twin-hearted Time Lord and it can only be the formula for a brilliant Doctor Who adventure.
This story sees Peter Davison reprising the reckless innocence of the Doctor’s fifth incarnation. What do a 14th Century mass murderer, a 19th Century merchant’s daughter and the Rio de Janeiro Carnival of 2080 have in common? It’s up to the Doctor to find out. Helped and occasionally hindered by Turlough, the Doctor must investigate the sinister affliction that is affecting the invalid son of Ileana de Santos, expose Doctor Hayashi’s secret and uncover the destiny of an extinct tribe.
While Who fans will revel in hearing Davison back at the Tardis console, special mention must go to Mark Strickland as Turlough. Turlough was one of the Doctor’s most enigmatic companions, with a dark secret at his core. Strickson returns to the role with calculated precision, making his character both interesting and unsettling at the same time. This CD audiobook is an example of Doctor Who at its best; entertaining and gripping fun for fans of all ages.
