Stephanie Cole ('Doc Martin'), Benedict Cumberbatch and Roger Allam ('The Thick of It') star in the complete first series of the hit sitcom about the pilots of a tiny charter airline for whom no job is too small, but many, many jobs are too difficult. Written by John Finnemore, writer for 'The News Quiz', and 'That Mitchell & Webb Sound'.Run by the forbidding divorcée Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (an unfortunate marriage, namewise, but in Carolyn’s opinion, marginally better than Carolyn Shappey-Knapp), her two pilots are the smooth, experienced and almost-certainly-fired-by-a-big-airline-for-all-round naughtiness Douglas, and struggling almost-competent pilot Martin. All-round help is provided by Carolyn’s near-idiot son, Arthur...'Unexpectedly brilliant' - Time Out. 'An inspired new sitcom' - Observer. 'I cannot find a single flaw in it. So top marks.' - Independent on Sunday.Full cast, starring Stephanie Cole, Roger Allam, Benedict Cumberbatch and John Finnemore.

Review By Doctor - MJN (My Jet Now) Airlines is owned and run by Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (Stephanie Cole) after her divorce and run on a shoestring so all she can afford is Captain Martin Crieff (Benedict Cumberbatch) who works for free, First Officer Douglas Richardson (Roger Allam) sacked for theft from his last airline and her idiot but ever so helpful son cabin crew Arthur Shappey (John Finnemore). Very funny and very cleverly written by John Finnemore. Worldly wise Douglas has (almost) all of the dodges to get out of tricky situations (he was fired once when caught with his fingers in the till) that Arthur can get get them into and that Martin is too by-the-book to be able to avoid. Great fun and probably more realistic than we Self Loading Freight (passengers) would wish to know. This is probably what the aircrew think of us!

Roger Allam is a fantastic as the wily and naturally brillant pilot First Officer Douglas, Benedict Cumberbatch superb as the distinctly adequate Captain Crief but John Finnemore has probably written himself most of the best lines!

Recommended. (Posted on 9 March 2013)

Cabin Pressure is a Radio 4 sitcom focussing on the ups and downs of MJN Air, the world’s smallest airline. Written by John Finnemore (who also appears as the over-enthusiastic Arthur), Cabin Pressure is in the hands of a supremely talented cast including Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch (Martin), Tenko and Waiting for God star Stephanie Cole (Carolyn)  and Olivier Award-winner Roger Allam (Douglas).

It relies on the classic elements of the great sit-coms to create something that is both new and funny, yet as dependable as the comedies of the Golden Age of Television. The first episode sets the tone and pace for the rest of the series. Carolyn’s attempts to stop her pilots wasting company money have disastrous consequences as they follow her instructions to the letter. Arthur takes on the catering duties and is concerned as to how aeroplanes actually fly, whilst the pilots entertain themselves with a game of ‘Brians of Britain.’

This fast-paced and witty sit-com is for those who like their comedy wry and dry, smattered with intellectual gags as well as some good old-fashioned silliness. Cabin Fever is British radio comedy at its best and has been deservedly hailed as ‘unexpectedly brilliant’ by Time Out magazine.
