Joan Jonker set up the charity, Victims of Violence, in 1976 and over the years she has helped twelve thousand victims, raised two million pounds and opened the first shelters for victims in the country. The support she received was unbelievable, a sign that there were many people as concerned as she was. She saw the black eyes, broken bones and shattered spirits. And she also attracted media attention, public recognition and honours for her work. This is her story of courage and compassion.
