Miss Read is the pseudonym of Dora Jessie Saint. She is most renowned for her series of books centred on idyllic English country villages. Over the past 50 decades she has built a following of loyal readers who have much affection for her charming stories. The two most famous series of books from here are the Fairacre and Thrush Green series. These books are about two lovely little villages in a peaceful English county. The first Fairacre novel she wrote was in 1955 and the last in 1996.

A peaceful retirement was the last novel in the Fairacre series of books written by Miss. Read. It is a delightful tale of what happens when the leading lady, also named Miss. Of course, life in Fairacre is never what you expect it to be!
