When Jeeves returns from his annual shrimping holiday in Bognor Regis, he’s in for a few surprises. Down at Brinkley Court, Aunt Dahlia is trying to persuade the publishing magnate L.G. Trotter to buy her magazine, M’Lady’s Boudoir. Trotter’s nephew, the whiskered Percy Gorringe, is head over heels about Florence Craye, whose engagement to 'Stilton' Cheesewright has just been called off. Florence is convinced that Bertie wants to marry her and Stilton wants to break his spine in six places. To top it all, there is ill-feeling in the Wooster home over Bertie’s attempts to grow a moustache!

P.G. Wodehouse was born in 1881 and died in 1975 on St Valentine’s Day, only weeks after being knighted. He is most famous for the creation of Jeeves and Wooster.

Customer Reviews

Bertie Wooster has been growing a moustache, while his trusty manservant Jeeves has been away on a shrimping holiday. Bertie’s fears that Jeeves will not like the addition to his upper lip are well founded. In fact, the only person who does seem to appreciate his face-furniture is Lady Florence Craye. As is always the case with Wodehouse, things become infinitely more complex than a simple matter of to shave or not to shave… Percy wants Bertie to invest £1,000 in his latest play, Aunt Dahlia wants to sell her magazine and a night out with Florence ends up with the hapless Bertie being arrested.

This audiobook for MP3 is delivered with Wodehouse’s usual wry wit, fondly satirising the buffoonery of the British upper-classes. Jonathan Cecil, the undisputed champion of playing toffee-nosed twits, is in his element, giving free reign to his silver-spooned tones and brilliant comic timing.

If you’re a fan of Wodehouse audiobooks on CD, then you’re in for a treat. However, if you’ve never dipped a toe into his wonderfully witty world, then you are in the enviable position of appreciating his outstanding work for the first time. These audiobooks for MP3 make a welcome change from the television; simply relax, pour yourself a snifter and enjoy.
