When the new Lady Cardross begins to fill her days with fashion and frivolity, the Earl has to wonder whether she did really only marry him for his money, as his family so helpfully suggests. And now Nell doesn’t dare tell him the truth...What with the concern over his wife’s heart and pocket, sorting out her brother’s scrapes and trying to prevent his own half sister from eloping, it is no wonder that the much-tried Earl almost misses the opportunity to smooth the path of true love in his marriage...

‘Wonderful characters, elegant, witty writing, perfect period detail, and rapturously romantic. Georgette Heyer achieves what the rest of us only aspire to’ - Katie Fforde

Review By Isabel - A beautiful, funny but tender text, very well read. (Posted on 3 November 2012)

Review By Katie - A story about misunderstood love. Nell, who undoubtedly steals the story, does her best to please everyone in her life and in doing so somehow manages to give everyone the wrong impression! The likeable, tender yet severe, Giles(the Earl) is unsure who to trust. Misguided relatives provide a frivolous and fun back drop to the story. It's well narrated by Eve Matheson and is now one of my favourite Georgette Heyer's. (Posted on 31 July 2012)

Georgette Heyer is said to have as good as established the historical and Regency romance genres. ‘April Lady’ is a wonderful example of her meticulous ability to incorporate the fine details of the early 1800s into an exciting and passionate literary achievement.

The novel centres on the lives of the wealthy Earl of Cardross and his beautiful young fiancé, Nell. They may seem like a perfect match, but trouble brews beyond the seemingly flawless surface of their relationship when Nell’s frivolous lifestyle leads the Earl and those close to him to question whether she is marrying him merely for his money. Meanwhile, Nell has concerns of her own. Will the couple ever be able to confront their apprehensions in pursuit of a happy marriage?

Gracefully told, ‘April Lady’ demonstrates Georgette Heyer’s distinguishing ability to bring period writing to life with strongly developed characters and dialogue that bristles with wit and personality. This romantic masterpiece on CD audiobook, compellingly narrated by Eve Matheson, is your opportunity to take yourself back in time, to a world of wealth and of true gentlemen in the upper reaches of society.

All Georgette Heyer titles are also available as downloadable audiobooks on MP3 so that your collection can develop in whichever format suits you best.
