The spring of 1811 brings one of the bitterest battles of the Peninsular War on which all British hopes of victory in Spain will depend. Sharpe is given a poorly equipped, untrained Irish battalion serving the King of Spain. While quartered in a crumbling fort, they are attacked by an elite French unit commanded by the formidable Brigadier General Guy Loup who has already clashed once with Sharpe and sworn revenge. With thousands of French troops massing at a tiny village nearby, Sharpe’s only hope is to redeem himself on the battlefield.

One of the more bitter battles Sharpe has ever had to face comes apparent in Sharpe’s Battle; a fictional historical story that is part of the Sharpe series of books penned by Bernard Cornwell. Famous for his love of historical fiction, Cornwell created a series of 24 books that delve into the military career of rifleman Richard Sharpe who fights many bloody battles in the Napoleonic War. This tale of fighting, romance and suspense is set during the Spanish Peninsula War in 1811 and is filled with the wartime tension and intrigue that only Cornwell can produce.

As we join the story, we are thrown straight into a cauldron of turmoil and fighting on the Spanish border with Portugal. Sharpe battles to rescue a young Spanish villager from being raped by a group of sadistic French soldiers, who are captured by Sharpe and his team. After learning that the girl’s entire village, including children, had been massacred by these beasts, Sharpe makes the decision to shoot all of the prisoners, which leads to a tale of dueling and revenge.

Check out this collection of audiobooks on MP3 to see if Sharpe will pay the ultimate price for his hasty decision to kill the French soldiers prompted by his revulsion for their heinous acts.
