The TARDIS lands in London in this classic TV soundtrack adventure, starring William Hartnell as the Doctor with linking narration by Anneke Wills. There’s something alien about that Tower... It’s 1966, and London’s brand new Post Office Tower looms over the Doctor and Dodo as they step from the TARDIS. When the Doctor meets Professor Brett, creator of a new, superintelligent computer called WOTAN, he is intrigued to hear of a plan to link all the major computers around the world. But there is more to WOTAN than meets the eye: it secretly believes humans to be inferior to machines, and already has a number of Post Office Tower staff under hypnotic power. WOTAN is planning the widespread construction of War Machines, large armoured computers bent on taking over the world! With the help of two new companions – sailor Ben Jackson and Professor Brett’s secretary, Polly – the Doctor races against time to outwit the War Machines and break WOTAN’s power. If he can’t, then the end of humanity is in sight... This remastered soundtrack of the original four-part BBC TV adventure is narrated by Anneke Wills, who plays Polly in the story. She also recalls her time in Doctor Who in a bonus interview.

William Hartnell stars as the original Doctor in this classic Doctor Who episode, first broadcast on BBC television back in 1966, when the episode is set.

When the TARDIS lands in London, close to the newly built Post Office Tower, the Doctor finds himself unsettled by an eerie and ominous sensation. Exploring their surroundings, he and his time-travelling accomplice, Dodo Chaplet, strike up an informative rapport with Professor Brett, the creator of a super intelligent computer called WOTAN.

Perplexed, the Doctor endeavours to learn more about the machine and it soon becomes apparent that it has a mind of its own. What’s more, its intentions are far from beneficial to the humans it was created to serve. Has the Professor really created an advanced technological masterpiece… or has he in fact created a monster?

This exciting blast from the past now comes to you as a re-mastered recording of the original four-part BBC adventure. A must for Doctor Who fans of all generations, this unique audio production features linking narration from Anneke Wills, who played Polly in the early days of the television series.

Also featuring a bonus interview from Wills, this BBC production of The War Machines is now available on CD or MP3 audiobook.
