The Doctor and Jo allow their curiosity to get the better of them as they learn of a recent epidemic of ships strangely disappearing off the south coast of England. The mystery of the unexplained vanishings are too much for the Doctor and his inquisitive friend to ignore and they soon find themselves embroiled in danger.

The vicious amphibian creatures are too blame for the recent seafaring deaths and their intent is to wreak havoc on Earth and see humanity taken over by the Sea Devils. The Doctor attempts to find a peaceful solution but his efforts are in vain as outside forces have different ideas on how to manage the situation.

Control of Earth once again hangs precariously in the balance as listeners wonder if the Doctor has taken on a challenge too tough even for him to fathom a happy ending…
