As a new day breaks over Nest Cottage, the Doctor and Mike know they have to face their enemy for a final confrontation. Reduced to miniature size, and with Mrs Wibbsey along as an unwilling adventurer, they venture inside the hornets’ nest itself. The Queen lies in wait for the enemy which she and her brood have faced so many times over the millennia. If she is to guarantee the survival of her alien hornet race for another thousand years, this is a battle she must win! The loyalty of the Doctor’s friends will be tested to the limit. And perhaps, at last, they will all understand why Mike Yates is so important... With Tom Baker as the Doctor, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey and Rula Lenska as the Queen, ‘Hive of Horror’ is the fifth of five linked stories written by the acclaimed Paul Magrs. '... an exciting adventure, compelling and nicely delivered' - Chichester Observer '... a rip-roaring conclusion to the overall arc, with a gripping confrontation between the Doctor and his nemesis the Hornet Queen (Rula Lenska) that more than satisfactorily wraps up the storyline' - Ely Standard '... Baker delivers the drama and intensity that you recognise from the Forth Doctor of old' - Doctor Who Magazine

Review By Drew - Hornet's Nest is a romp from start to finish! Not only does it mark Tom Baker’s first appearance in the series for almost thirty years, but it has been penned by inimitable Paul Magrs, whose recent works for Big Finish, have met with considerable acclaim. I can heartily recommend it and the subsequent Magrs/Baker stories! (Posted on 20 March 2013)

Review By PatGoD67 - For £25, you can't go wrong!

Firstly, the packaging is wonderful - nothing too fancy, but eye-catching and appealing nontheless. Elements of the artwork don't give anything away, and in fact raise more questions than they answer; the TARDIS, a winter scene, and evil-looking baby doll, ballet slippers, and the silhouette of Tom. As I said, they don't give anything away, and the bright yellow certainly catches your attention.

Now, onto the stories. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll keep it brief. They're brilliant. Tom's voice hasn't changed since his 'Logopolis' days, so really adds to the continuity. Unfortunately, Yates's has, but this also adds to the mystery surrounding the non-linear life of a Time Lord! A sad fact of life, but still, I'm glad to see both of these characters back together; they play off each other really well, and represent one of my favourite periods in DW history!

Overall, the stories are all AT LEAST a 9.5/10. Well-priced, excellent voice-work, and I'll definitely be purchasing the other serials in the range! (Posted on 3 December 2012)

An advert in the paper directed at the Fourth Doctor’s old UNIT colleague, the retired Captain Mike Yates, sparks off the beginning of another exciting series of Doctor Who audio adventures by the highly acclaimed author, Paul Magrs.

A sinister, psychic alien race of hornets is posing a terrifying threat to the future of humanity. Before long, the Doctor and Mike Yates find themselves caught up in a series of life threatening escapades, involving a possessed dollhouse, a corrupt circus and a beleaguered nunnery.

Finally, with the reluctant Mrs Wibbsey in tow, they find themselves facing the ultimate confrontation as they shrink down to miniature size in order to face the deadliest enemy of all… the Queen of the Hornet hive.

The Hornet’s Nest Box Set brings together all five action-packed titles from this Doctor Who adventure, starring the star of the early BBC television show, Tom Baker, alongside Richard Franklin as Captain Yates, Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey and Rula Lenska as The Queen.

Packed with nearly six hours of high quality audio entertainment, this all-out must for all Doctor Who fans is now available to own on CD audiobook.
