David Troughton reads this exciting novelisation of a classic Doctor Who adventure. In the dark, uncharted depths of the North Sea it has lurked, growing in strength, growing in size, and striking terror into the hearts of mariners down the untold centuries. Landing near a North Sea gas refinery off the east coast of England, the TARDIS crew are immediately accused of sabotage. Several rig crews have mysteriously vanished, strange pressure build-ups have been detected, and in the refinery’s pipelines the Doctor can hear the steady, rhythmic beat of – what? Soon the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria will find themselves at the unrelenting mercy of the deadliest and most terrifying foe they have ever encountered... David Troughton reads Victor Pemberton’s complete and unabridged novelisation, first published by Target Books in 1986.

Customer Reviews

Many of the early Doctor Who episodes are lost, with absolutely no episodes surviving in the BBC Archives. Thankfully, many of the original scripts have been kept, allowing the BBC to release a series of audiobooks on CD and MP3, giving fans the chance to tread the hallowed ground of adventures that haven’t been seen since the original broadcast. Fury From The Deep was one of those stories.

The Tardis lands on a North Sea Oil Refinery, to discover that a mutant, parasitic seaweed is attaching itself to the crew and driving them insane. As the Doctor struggles to find a cure, one of his companions decides that her time-travelling has to come to an end…

This is one of the Second Doctor stories that have achieved almost-mythical status in Doctor Who fandom. It’s only fitting, then, that the narrative reins are handed over to David Troughton; Patrick Troughton’s son. David is an accomplished actor in his own right, having appeared in shows such as New Tricks. It cannot be denied that he sounds uncannily like his father, and he invests himself entirely in the performance; a fitting addition to the Second Doctor’s extraordinary adventures.
