Prince Dandypants is quite happy admiring his reflection when along comes this beastly Masked Avenger, stirring up trouble. Before Dandypants knows what’s happening, he’s been turfed out of the palace to look for a bride. Which is why he’s riding through the forest, knowing that anything could be round the corner: scary brigands, killer bees, foul green wobbly things lurking in swamps. Worst of all—he hasn’t got a comb!

Review By Fi L - This is our most listened to audiobook ever. No long car journey would be complete without it and it has saved my sanity on many an occasion when the kids start to get fractious. Once again Kaye Umansky has turned the traditional fairy tale on its head with hysterical results. Robert Llewellyn deserves an Oscar for his narration and voicing of the crazy cast of characters. Why is there no Oscar for audiobooks? There's the vain, lily-of-the-field Prince Daniel a.k.a Dandypants, his morose dwarf servant Jollops, the heroic tomboy, Charlie, King 'Belcher' Boris and King 'Tightwad' Teddie, and, of course, the Masked Avenger. The unwilling Prince Dandypants is sent into the world to find a bride, "They won't even throw me a ball, even dogs get thrown balls," with only Jollops to guard him, "and he'll only guard me from the knees down" and finds a lot more than he bargained for, including mud slinging peasants, a truculent princess and a devious giant. Laughs all the way from the opening scene between Dandypants' and Jollops to "and that's as happy an ending as you're going to get." Kaye Umansky knows how to hook her audience and reel them in. This is definitely one for the whole family. (Posted on 15 November 2012)
