This funny, thought-provoking and at times moving story about a young boy’s exploits on an adventure holiday that he’d rather not be on is one of the many reasons why Jacqueline Wilson is one of the most beloved children’s authors of her time. Witty, entertaining and intelligently written and full of cliffhangers in more ways than one, this delightful story read by actor Stephen Tomkinson and available as a CD audiobook will charm and captivate.
Tim is a young boy who, against his will, is sent away on an activity holiday by his parents. Unsuited to games and outdoor pursuits, Tim frequently fears for his mortality, particularly with the prospect of activities such as abseiling. To compound matters, upon arrival he accidentally leaves his favourite teddy bear in the car and, as if things couldn’t get any worse, he is forced to his horror to share his quarters with a vicious bully.
Whilst initially reluctant, over the course of the activities Tim begins to find himself fitting in at the camp - much to his surprise. After what he thought was going to be a truly horrid week, Tim discovers courage that he never knew he had, and ends up making plenty of friends along the way. This modern-day morality tale is a clear demonstration of Davis' empathetic and fluid writing skills and makes a welcome addition to any MP3 and CD audiobook collection.
