Already an avid naturalist at the age of ten, Gerald lived with his mother and older siblings: sister Margo and brothers Larry and Leslie. Convivial and hospitable, the family played host to a never-ending stream of unconventional guests.

But for the young Gerry, the main attraction of Corfu was the abundant and varied wildlife. Ranging over the island, he spent hours observing and marvelling at the fantastic creatures around him, some of which found their way back to the family villa. He recalls the island’s stunning natural beauty and the varied and entertaining behaviour of both human beings and animals.
