The actors bring drama and a meaning to the words on the page, making the play easier to understand. I would recommend this audio book to any student studying this play, I listened to it on the long train home, much less taxing and more accessible than reading the text.
In all this is defiantly worth the money, David Harewood and Frances Barber are brilliant. The short introduction at the beginning gives beneficial context too. (Posted on 28 January 2013)

Mark Antony abandons his domestic duties to Rome as one of her three leaders, to spend time in the company of the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. So begins this beautiful story of two people torn between Love and Duty.
In Cleopatra, Shakespeare has written possibly his most complex female character. She is at times selfish, arrogant, beguiling and vulnerable. The verse in this play is some of the most beautiful in the English language. This is Shakespeare at his best - weaving two themes into one organic whole. Mark Antony is torn between his duty to Rome and the honour it brings him. Cleopatra is drawn to Mark Antony and neglects what is proper for Egypt. The two dream of creating an empire for themselves - only to have that dream shattered.
With a long and distinguished career both on stage, TV and film (Excalibur, Rome, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows) Ciaran Hinds plays the part of Antony in possibly the most beautiful of Shakespeare’s love plays.
