Agatha Raisin’s neighbouring village of Ancombe is usually the epitome of quiet rural charm, but the arrival of a new mineral water company – which intends to tap into the village spring – sends tempers flaring and divides the parish council into two stubborn camps. When Agatha, who happens to be the PR person for the water company, finds the council chairman murdered at the spring, tongues start wagging. Could one of the council members have silenced the chairman before he could cast the deciding vote? It is up to Agatha, still nursing a bruised heart from her broken engagement, to investigate the councillors, solve the crime – and promote the water company in the face of all this scandal.

Active StarActive StarActive StarActive StarActive Star A tale of Public Relations, personal relations and murder
Review By Charmayne - Agatha decides to help out with some local public relations work, but as ever, it leads to murder, intrigue and investigation. A local ancient spring is attracting more attention that the local villagers would like and, as we have come to expect from this wonderful series of books, Agatha Raisin finds herself in the middle of it all. There is danger, a hint of romance and, of course, the opportunity for Agatha to cross swords with the local police force. It all (well, mostly) comes good in the end and Agatha survives to investigate again. (Posted on 30 May 2013)

Review By Lizzie - I can't really explain why I liked this audiobook - but this is a review so I am going to give it a shot. Penelope Keith's performance is alright, not the best characterisations, but they "suit" the author's style. The book is light, unthreatening and not too taxing - though the subject matter is the solving and thwarting of murder plots! The writer's style is quirky - an older person's view of the modern world (especially when it comes to drug culture and the youth scene) - in places it makes you laugh out loud because of the apparent naiveté. But there is much more to M C Beaton's "Agatha Raisin" than this might imply. The protagonists are clearly drawn, a bit obvious, but likeable. The Cotswolds, where the plot is set, is colourfully described and accurate.
A good beach or Christmas holiday read. I still can't say exactly why I like this book as much as I do! (Posted on 6 September 2012)
