Review By Katie - Although not a great deal happens in the story, there is much to enjoy and It is with much humour that the characters, when taken in relation to each other, make a story. As many of the characters in the book, with their argumentative interaction are actually the best of friends, they all enjoy sparring with each other. Along with Lucilla and her young friend/'attendant swain' there is much in the form of bickering, there are jealous outbursts from Miss Farlow and then there are full on sparring sessions from Annis and Mr Carleton; which ensures there is never a dull moment! By the end I was left with a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling from the thought- is the love in this story destiny? It certainly seem as if it must be, the idea is also, more or less voiced by Annabelle(Annis' sister in law) at the end. So it's charm is mainly in the gentle romance that's in the air. ‘Lady of Quality’ was the last novel ever to be published during the lifetime of its commendable author, Georgette Heyer.

As accessible now as it was when it was first published in 1972, the story focuses on the complicated romance between the careless rogue Oliver Carleton and the wealthy, fiercely independent heroine, Annis Wynchwood. But what Oliver lacks in manners and civility, he makes up for in passion and experience. His liberating independence attracts the like-minded Annis, but is she willing to sacrifice her own freedom for a rake such as him?

‘Lady of Quality’ is testament to Georgette Heyer’s passion and masterful craft, which contributed to the huge success of her many Regency romance novels. She is said to have invented the genre, with her meticulous research and attention to accuracy with regards to the period she explored in her novels.

Heyer’s vibrant characters and engaging storylines have endured the test of time and, to this day, remain popular and admirable literary achievements. This compelling CD audiobook, also available to download in MP3 format, is narrated by Eve Matheson. So sit back and enjoy a journey back in time to a setting of fiery romance in Regency England.
