As he reaches Baghdad, Pyne and his group of avid explorers visit the Gate of Baghdad – also aptly called the Gate of Death. One of the adventurers is murdered, but not before he tells Pyne that he is intently worried about something that he wants to talk about later that night. Unfortunately, and as in all good murder-mystery tales, he dies before his dark secret is revealed and we are taken on a journey of epic proportions as Pyne tries to find out what the secret is and in turn, who the killer is. This story is truly puzzling and Christie brings Pyne to life with her brilliant penmanship and passion for stories filled with tension, anticipation and of course – murder.
