Review By Charmayne - I first listened to this recording on BBC Radio 4 Extra. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so decided to purchase the download to enjoy at leisure, but actually listened all in one day! Agatha Christie fans will not be disappointed with this production. A great timeless story, with money at the heart of the tale, a true Christie classic. (Posted on 30 May 2013)

Review By Lizzie - The BBC radio adaptations of Christie's Hercule Poirot are excellent . The essentials of the book are not lost, period is well drawn as are the characterisations by the cast. The only down side for me was the musical accompaniment .
On the whole very enjoyable. (Posted on 6 September 2012)

The Sad Cypress written by bestselling British author Agatha Christie is the first book in the Poirot series that is set as a courtroom drama. This detective fictional tale was originally published in 1940 and its title derives from a song in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, which can be seen as an epigraph to the story. Christie’s love of a murderous plotline saw her pen a total of 33 stories that feature the quirky Belgian detective Hercule Poirot as everyone’s favourite crime-solver.

In this BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of Sad Cypress we are introduced to Roddy Welman and Elinor Carlisle, who initially appear to be the archetypal English couple. They are in love but of course this is an Agatha Christie story, so you can guarantee that their happiness will be short lived. The death of Elinor’s Aunt Laura sees the couple travel to Elinor’s family home in a bid to thwart a childhood friend’s plans to steal her family’s fortune. However, Roddy has a wandering eye and soon falls in love with the beautifully captivating Mary, the lady who is suspiciously interested in Aunt Laura’s money.

Can Hercule Poirot solve the mystery of a death by poison or is the cold-blooded murderer as painfully obvious as everyone suspects? This CD audiobook, also available as an MP3 download, is the ideal addition to any Christie collection and is the perfect accompaniment to a wet afternoon or a long car journey.
